Mindfulness and Compassion Based Resilience Programme for Children and Adolescents

 

Mindfulness for Children...
Mindfulness is a useful skill for children and is a process of living in the moment and developing awareness. This practice teaches children to accept their feelings, thoughts and physical sensations as they are in the present moment. By teaching them to explore their mind and return to the present moment, it helps them to connect more deeply with their inner experiences and better cope with emotional challenges. Mindfulness teaches children important life skills such as managing stress, improving attention and concentration skills, increasing empathy and strengthening emotional intelligence. This is an important step for a healthy development process.

Mindfulness and Compassion Based Resilience Programme (CBCCRP)
The main intention of the Mindfulness and Compassion Based Resilience Programme, designed with the clinical and mindfulness experience of Prof. Dr. Özlem Sürücü and Prof. Dr. Zümra Atalay, is to develop emotion regulation skills for children and adolescents, and to enable them to adopt the attitudes that bring mindfulness and compassion into their lives.

What are the Benefits of Mindfulness Programme for Children?
* Development of Attention and Concentration: Mindfulness exercises for children teach them to focus their attention and stay for long periods of time without distraction. This helps them to concentrate better in school, homework and daily life.


* Development of Emotion Regulation Skills: Mindfulness helps children to better recognise and manage their emotional reactions. In this way, children can manage challenging emotions such as anger, stress or sadness in a healthier way.


* Reduced Stress and Anxiety: Mindfulness helps children learn to calm their minds and better manage stressful situations.


* Development of Empathy and Relationship Skills: Mindfulness encourages understanding the feelings and needs of others, strengthens empathy and understanding skills, and helps children build healthier relationships.


* Creativity and Problem Solving Skills: Mindfulness exercises put children in touch with their inner world, encouraging them to explore their own thoughts, feelings and creative potential. This helps children to use their imagination and solve problems by thinking from different perspectives.


* Good Sleep and Relaxation: Mindfulness exercises improve children's sleep quality and help them learn how to relax through the body. Regular practice enables children to learn skills that facilitate relaxation and sleep.


* Increased self-confidence and self-esteem: Mindfulness encourages children to trust and accept themselves. Children develop better self-confidence and self-esteem by discovering their inner values and developing a positive mental attitude.

HOW THE PROGRAMME WORKS
 The training programme will consist of 16 modules and 157 hours in total, including 13 online sessions and 3 face-to-face full days. In this process, in addition to the training sessions, daytime meditation meetings, silence day participations, peer practices with a paired person will also be held.

1. Definition, scientific foundations, neurobiology, mechanisms of action, transfer to daily life
2. Trainers' mindfulness practices
 
* Mindfulness for children
1. Definition, contributions of mindfulness practices to the healthy development of children, scientific studies,
 
* Basic Principles for Teaching Mindfulness to Children
1. Tools for adapting awareness according to age
2. Stories, metaphors and application examples that can be used to introduce children to the concept of mindfulness.
3. Being sensitive to trauma in mindfulness work with children.
 
* Implementation of Mindfulness and Compassion Based Resilience Programme
1. Practices that gradually develop mindfulness skills for children
2. Introducing the 8-week programme to the trainer, processing
3. Educational Content Supported by Activities and Games
4. Parental communication

The age group covered for this training: 6-12 age range. Working with adolescents will be opened as an additional module.


About Retreat
* In order to complete the instructor training, it is necessary to have attended 6 full days of mindfulness silence retreats face to face.
* The Mindfulness Institute organises a 6-day silence retreat every year for the instructor programme. This is subject to an extra fee. Since the fee is related to the number of people, the conditions of the day and the venue, it is announced close to the organisation.
* Participants are not obliged to attend the retreat organised by our institution. Participation in any equivalent retreat programme approved by the Institute is also considered valid.
* Participants who have not participated in the mindfulness silence retreat cannot open their own pilot courses.

Supervision Process
* After completing the instructor programme, instructor candidates are expected to open their own pilot courses.
In order for the instructor candidate to open his/her own pilot programme, he/she must have attended the retreat.
* During this pilot programme, the candidate trainer is required to receive at least 4 supervisions.
The supervised trainer candidate is responsible for submitting 5 reports in total, including pre-structured reports for each session and a general final report when the supervision process is over.


Supervisors are Dr Özlem Sürücü and Prof. Dr Zümra Atalay.
 
About Certification
Trainer candidates who have achieved at least 70% participation in the training process, who have completed the additional studies (daytime meditation meetings, participation in at least 1 silence day, continuing the practice with peer) retreat, pilot group and supervision process in accordance with the conditions will be entitled to receive a certificate at the end of the programme and will be recognised as educators who provide education at ethical standards.

Prerequisites
* To have completed an 8-week MBSR or similar basic mindfulness training
* Being a mental health worker, teacher, child development specialist, social worker

* The training fee is expected to be completed before the start of the training.
